Oregon Coast: Take 2. We’re Back!

It’s been nearly 4 months since my last post.  What a slacker.  It’s amazing how time flies when you’re having fun, and the past 4 months are no exception.  I know what many of you are thinking.  You probably think that we are just sitting around drinking beer and eating things all the time, so…

It’s been nearly 4 months since my last post.  What a slacker.  It’s amazing how time flies when you’re having fun, and the past 4 months are no exception.  I know what many of you are thinking.  You probably think that we are just sitting around drinking beer and eating things all the time, so why on earth can we (I) not find the time to slap a few words together that chronicle our prior week’s adventure?  It’s a legitimate and fair question, and one that I’ve talked to my folks about quite often.  Where does the time go?  I’m not entirely sure, and I’ve even gone so far as to coin the phrase “time vortex” to help account for the times between 9AM and 11AM, and then again from 2PM to 4PM.  As newly-retired folks, or “full-time adventure seekers” as Jules would call us, we’ve discovered that time doesn’t really slow down when one stops working.  If you’re active like we are (physically, psychologically, and emotionally), time always flies by.  Because we do “nothing” for a living these days, you’d think we’d have all sorts of time on our hands.  Well, not really, and yet further testament to one of the fundamental reasons why we’re doing this.  You only get one life folks, so you might as well enjoy the time you have on this beautiful planet.  Carpe Diem, folks…the time is now, and none of us have any time to waste.

Now that I’ve opened up my excuse bag and dumped it on your laps, it’s time to get back to chronicling.  After the asswipes broke our window in Bend, we shot straight for the Oregon coast again and landed in Newport, OR a few hours later.  We love this town…the original (I think) Rogue Brewery down on the wharf, great camping not far from the waterfront, classic OR steelhead/salmon waters only minutes away, and a small bonus brewery on the south side of town called Wolf Tree Brewing that specializes in wild fermentation and sour beers.  What else does one need, other than more time?img_7017img_7033 img_7013

Whilst having a few pops at Wolf Tree, we had the pleasure of meeting a great, young couple from Sheridan, Wyoming, Heather and Kevin.  Heather and Kevin were in town visiting Rogue Brewery, and a trip based on beer is my kind of trip.  Kevin was also about to start a new job in a few days, and this was their way of celebrating a new era in their lives.  Congratulations, Kevin, we hope the job is going well.  We look forward to seeing the two of you on the road sometime soon when you’ll be able to drink beer for a living, sort of like us.  That’s weird, I’ve never actually once thought that anyone would want to be like us…unemployed, homeless, and living on the road, with copious amounts of free time on our hands to write useless dribble like I’m writing right now.img_7024img_7022

Okay, I feel better now.  I am already looking forward to my next post, but somehow I will have to consolidate 4 months of fun into something that’s interesting, concise, and reflective of what we actually did.  My plan is to do this over the next 2 weeks, so that I can get caught up entirely, and then return to chronicling our adventures in something more like real-time.  Thanks for your patience, and thanks for reading our blog.  Cheers
