Yellowstone’s Little (Better) Brother

We hauled ass out of Yellowstone and headed for Jenny Lake Campground, inside Grand Teton National Park.  As we pulled into the campground, we quickly learned that it was a “tent-only” campground.  Oops, that won’t work for our new, fancy Euro-big-rig.  So, we simply spun around, headed back north, and found an absolute gem in Signal Mountain Campground, located on the shores of the beautiful Jackson Lake.  Folks, this is probably the most beautiful scenery that we know of here in our cherished country.  The views of the Teton mountains across the lake are simply some of the most spectacular views that we have ever seen.  And the campground is amazing.  It has 2 restaurants, and even a bar that stays open to midnight.  And this is managed by the Park Service?  What?  We watched Monday Night Football at the bar and shared some bar snacks and several 20-ounce glasses of hazy IPA.  It was a nice departure for us, and it even felt like “civilization”, something that we hadn’t felt for at least a couple weeks.  I did my first polar plunge into the icy waters of Jackson Lake and we did one of the most amazing paddleboard excursions we have ever done.  The water was like glass most of the time and the backdrop of the Tetons was simply stunning.   We racked up a couple miles of paddling and treated ourselves to a second polar plunge along with a couple frosty Montucky Cold Snacks (Montana’s version of PBR, yes we are hip).  It was epic, for sure.  We met some fellow van people on our last night, Priscilla and Scott, from Telluride, Colorado.  What great people with such a great outlook on life.  We exchanged info on van life and all the gadgets that go with it, and I think all of us learned something from the show-and-tell, which is exactly how these encounters ought to go.  I slow-smoked a tri tip roast on the Traeger and MJ made her famous garlic-cheese mashed potatoes….check out the smoke ring in the pic below!  Priscilla and Scott, we will be sure to track you down in Telluride, whenever that is!  Please keep us posted of  your travels by placing a comment on our blog and hopefully we meet again on the great road ahead of us.  Cheers!
