The push south continued, and we rolled into the sleepy little town of Bigfork, MT, on Sunday the 2nd of September. Bigfork is located on the gorgeous Flathead Lake at its northeastern limit. What a cool little town with a great vibe. When we arrived on Sunday, the streets to the small, quaint downtown were closed for a car show. We simply parked the van and explored the many vintage cars and hotrods that lined the street. The locals were out in abundance, and one could just tell this was the place to be. We camped 2 nights in the Wayfarer State Park, located about 2 minutes from downtown and adjacent to the lake. Yet another cool campground discovered on Campendium. The Flathead Lake is beautiful, and it’s giant. Apparently, it is the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, and even bigger than Yellowstone Lake, which is shocking. There is certainly development along the shores of the lake, but not as dense as one would think. Could there be a possibility that we could find a lot along the lake? We don’t know, but we have already started looking, it’s just that nice. Bigfork is home to the Flathead Lake Brewing Company, and we were happy to find a couple sours on tap, along with some of the best fries we have tasted in a while. We explored the northwestern shores of the lake in another small town appropriately named “Lakeside”. Lakeside is also quite nice, but not as quaint as Bigfork, and it too had its own brewery called “Tamarack Brewing”. We managed to grab a couple brews at Tamarack after a respectable bike ride to a ridge above a beautiful little lake called “Foys Lake”. Foys Lake is stunning, and in the middle of nowhere, with a small island in the middle, tourquoise blue water, and white sand beaches and bars. It looks like a little Bahamian paridise in the middle of northern Montana. On Monday night, we revisted downtown Bigfork to see some live, free music along the river in a park. What a cool spot to hang out, buy some fresh produce, mingle with the locals, and gather around beer. The bottom line is that we love Flathead Lake, and we especially love the little harbor town of Bigfork. It has “Bigforken” potential for our future, for sure!
