We ripped up Whitefish for 3 nights heading into the start of the big Labor Day Weekend, at least for those folks that still need to work for a living :).  As Carmen and Paul have been telling us, this is certainly a cool little town in the middle of nowhere.  Golf courses, Whitefish Lake, Whitefish Mountain Resort, a couple breweries, mountain biking, and great fishing.  We stayed at Whitefish Lake State Park and enjoyed the <15-minute bike ride to town for a couple beers.  We especially enjoyed the setting and the beer at Bonsai Brewing Project…actually, we seem to enjoy anything with the word “project” in it.  We made the quick ride up to the resort to confirm that it is the real deal…it is.  The fires in Glacier NP played spoiler for us, because the “Going-to-the-Sun” Road was essentially closed right at the entrance to the park.  We took a little adventure up to the north entrance to see if we could make our way around the fire, but only found a 6-mile out-and-back to a lake inside GNP. We did get a chance to pass through the booming metropolis of Polebridge along the way, a tiny little western settlement, even by Whitefish standards.   The plan is to circle back and hit the entire park the next time around.  Anyway, we enjoyed Whitefish a bunch, and I even paid a visit to the local real estate office to have them run a listing report for properties that met the requirements of our senior budget.  Whitefish has long-term potential for us, for sure.  As Lippy always said, “go big, or go home”.  We miss you, Lippy.
